After the fire and ice night, we get up and wait for the light to pick up. During this time of the year up here it is quite dark, but we noticed the sunset difference even between Stockholm (sunset on 12/12: 08h44, sunrise: 14h48) and southern Denmark (8h40-15h51). We decided to head out for a walk before sunset and have a great time out in the forest and next to the sea. Sebastian and Frico need some time running outside, and this was perfect for them and for us. We could have skipped one stop (we probably would have without the little people) but like this the journey is more calm and enjoyable. We tidy up, and are off towards Paderborn.
As soon as we enter Germany and approach Hamburg the traffic picks up. Despite the traffic, we still make it more or less in 4 hours to Paderborn and arrive without issues to our hotel. We decided to stay in the center to visit around, and I found a good, clean, dog-friendly hotel with a parking for the campervan. I suggest hotel Aspethera if you ever pass by Paderborn.
Why Paderborn, you may ask? Jay, my husband, comes from Oregon, in the US. He lived in a few different places before we met. His first time in Europe was a one-year exchange in Paderborn, back in 1997. We went back after all those years! Most of his friends are no longer there, but Jay´s German is still very good and we enjoy the Christmas markets and a tour to see his former student housing, favorite bars, the pub where he worked and other young-Jay landmarks!
